Get Ready for Alien Hives Unveiled

We're excited to announce the Alien Hives Faction Book, the next faction book for Grimdark Future. Faction books are expansive supplements that cover the lore and history of a specific faction in the OPR universe. Teeming with gorgeous art and covering every aspect of the society of the Alien Hives. This book is sure to be a hit for people who want a unique, vibrant, and exotic society in the stars.

Our release will also include four all-new narrative hero models to add to your Alien Hives armies! Launching first on MyMiniFactory's Frontiers, you'll have the opportunity to pick up the new book, new heroes, and even the entire Alien Hives 3D printable army at an incredible launch discount.

The Alien Hives Faction Book is entirely lore-focused, with the army rules and stats, including the new Narrative Heroes, available for free on Army Forge. This makes the book equally useful for all of our Grimdark Future games, or any game you choose to play in the Grimdark Future setting! The book will not go out of date just because we've updated the game rules in the future.

About the Alien Hives Faction Book

The Alien Hives’ nomadic way of life was challenged when the Alien Hives reached the Sirius Sector and realised that other civilisations were incredibly numerous. A number of Hiveships decided to settle planets in the manner of other factions in Sirius, while many more clung to their traditional approach of kickstarting the Seeding process and returning to the planet once its ecosystem had become more welcoming.

Hivers generally divide their territory within Sirius into four distinct regions. They do not represent a specific Hiveship’s territory, but rather regions which share certain characteristics and challenges due to a shared history.

The Charred Edge, for example, was the site of some of the most vicious fighting in the First Contact War as the Dynasty pursued the Hivers into Sirius. The region remains a place of violent struggle and desolation, often considered something of a mourning ground for the Hivers lost during the years of bitter struggle.

Just beyond the devastated Edge is the Clearing, which represents the closest the Alien Hives have to their old Garden in the galaxy. Most planets in the area have been long abandoned or left completely untouched, leaving room for the Hivers to try to cultivate the worlds in the hope they might one day find one worthy to bear the next Mother.

The Lush Expanse is a tempting orchard, a region offering a smattering of fertile, unclaimed worlds teeming with wildlife. But Hivers are not the only ones attracted to these opportunities and need to resort to both diplomacy and warfare to secure their place in the feast.

Finally, the Foreign Confines is a place of danger, where Hiveship fleets are but a blip on the radar of well-established factions, deeply entrenched and warring with one another. Hivers have little desire to renew the old conflicts and throw themselves once more into open war with the factions of Sirius, so migratory paths in the Confines can be preserved and grown only through diplomacy or subterfuge.

As the Hivers become increasingly habituated to the advantages and hardships of these different regions, they have each continued to adopt new strategies and forms to adapt and prosper. With each passing generation, new characteristics emerge that distinguish a Clearing Hiver from an Expanse Hiver, both culturally and physically.

Even within a region, Hiveships may respond differently to challenges. Some try to seed barren but well-hidden worlds, while others would drive away foreigners that were tainting a lush, fertile planet. Some see war as a natural extension of natural predatory behaviours, while others despise it as a perversion brought on by a disconnect with nature.

These growing differences can be a source of tension between the Hives, to the point that fraternal conflicts are growing more and more frequent. For instance, when Hiveship Skartha tried to attack a border planet of the Eternal Dynasty, the ship’s detachment was wiped out by Hiveship Tsavagor, who deemed Skartha’s offensive a threat to the region’s stability.

As Hivers continue adapting to their new environments, one thing remains certain: even in the fiercely competitive Sirius Sector, they are here to stay, and woe to anyone who would oppose them.
