Patch Notes - January 28th, 2026

Hello everyone,

Today we're pushing the first quarterly patch for the games, which is a little bit different from how we used to do things before, so let us explain what that means.

Based on community feedback, it has become clear that generally players would like longer periods of stability between balance patches, so starting this year, we're going to change how the quarterly patches work. Instead of having a balance patch every 3 months between editions, which might require players to re-adjust their armies, we're only going to have 1 balance patch every year, giving players a full 6 months before they might need to re-adjust their armies.

Between each new edition and balance patch, we're going to have a hotfix, which is used to patch up any game-breaking issues we find, as well as provide small quality-of-life updates wherever possible. That being said, the goal of the hotfixes is that they're relatively minor, so players don't have to re-adjust their armies.

To make things clearer, so far, this is how we've been releasing game updates:

  • September - New Edition
  • December/January - Balance Patch
  • March/April - Balance Patch
  • June/July - Balance Patch
  • September - New Edition

From now on, this is how we've been releasing game updates instead:

  • September - New Edition
  • December/January - Hotfix
  • March/April - Balance Patch
  • June/July - Hotfix
  • September - New Edition

No matter what, we are keeping our commitment to not updating the core rules between editions, so you can rest assured that those are staying the same for a full 12 months as we've been doing for the past few years. This means that overall the games will remain stable for longer, and require less re-adjustments for players.

We hope that you like this new release models, and that it gives you more time to breathe between patches. :)

Please note that as always, we will be updating armies that are getting new model releases outside of this schedule, so that players can play with all of their new models as they are released on Patreon. For example, this year you can expect fantasy Orcs and sci-fi Ratmen Clans to get some updates as models are released.

With that in mind, let's move on to talking about today's hotfix.

Overall the changes are relatively minor, with some rules being slightly re-written to be simpler to understand, as well as fixing a bunch of rules that were not working correctly for AoF: Quest / GF: Star Quest. We've also updated the Heavy Impact rule to reduce the length of some statlines, and are going to keep our eyes peeled for more opportunities where we can streamline things this way.

Based on player feedback, we're bringing back Smasher weapons for Goblin Reclaimers, because the faction was left without effective anti-tank measures, and we're going to be taking steps to further tweak army weapon rules in the next edition. We're also adding a few new units for the Ossified Undead, so that players can build more well-rounded and interesting armies with them.

The only major thing that's being updated is the cost of Shred and related rules, which unfortunately means that some armies will be more affected by this patch than what we'd like. Generally speaking, our goal with hotfixes is that they shouldn't affect point costs, however the math behind Shred was broken to the point that it made anything related to it unbalanced, so it had to be updated. We apologize for any inconveniences caused by this.

Alright, onto the patch notes!
