Community Survey Results
Earlier this month we ran our bi-annual community survey and recieved over 2400 responses. That makes this the most responded to survey we've ever had! Thank you to everyone who responded. Now lets take a look at what you've said!
Which OPR games do you play?

There were not a lot of surprises with our game popularity this time, with most games being right around where they always fall when we do this survey. Grimdark Future remains our most popular game with Age of Fantasy and the skirmish games being our other stand outs. Age of Fantasy: Quest and Grimdark Future: Star Quest's numbers have gone down to match the rest of the games in our roster, which isn't a surprise considering that they were brand new when the last survey was taken.
How often do you play OPR games?

While there have been some small shifts in the brackets here, you all still seem to be playing a whole lot of OPR! It's fantastic to see that more than 60% of players continue to play more than once a month, and now the trend is heading towards more than twice a month! So keep rolling those dice, keep playing matches, and keep putting models on the table!
Where do you play OPR games?

We're seeing more and more store and club play this time, though the majority of you all also play at home. We have to believe this is because of the excellent work of our OPR Rangers Program. More and more community events are reported every month, so we expect to keep seeing this number rise as we bring more players into the game!
What OPR community events would you be interested in attending?

But when it comes to what events you'd be interested in playing? It hasn't changed at all. Casual events continue to be the lead by far with a smaller but dedicated fanbase for competitive events and tournaments. We're going to continue to offer continued support for both audiences through the OPR Rangers Program as well as our expanded Convention appearances and event schedules.
When you're building your armies, do you use your own custom names and lore?

It seems the majority of the OPR audience customizes the lore of their armies to some extent! Most with custom names for their armies and heroes, but over 40% of you have given your armies fully custom backgrounds and lore! Freedom and customization have always been important for OPR and so it isn't too surprising to see the community embrace it so enthusiastically.
How do you paint your models?

With so many of you customizing your armies, it isn't a surprise at al that the vast majority of our audience paints their armies to their own custom schemes. We get to see this each month with our painting contests, and its fantastic to see how you all interpret each of the armies.
How do you customize the models you use in your armies?

What is surprising is that nearly two thirds of our audience kitbashes and customizes the models themselves. Over half of you are 3d printing custom bits and pieces for the job, and the rest seem to be using other kits and bit packs to get the job done. We've also seen plenty of scratch-built customizations in the painting contests.
Have you ever used Army Forge Studio to create custom units, army books, or factions?

With Army Forge Studio, OPR lets you completely customize or even build up entire factions and armies for our games, and it seems nearly half of our audience uses it, though its a pretty even spread on exactly how they use it. We've already seen the fruits of their efforts because there are now hundreds of community created army books available for everyone to use in Army Forge. Thank you all for sharing your creations!
What minis do you use to play OPR games?

When it comes to your choice of models, we're seeing a small increase in the use of official OPR models across the board, including another rise in the use of our free paper miniatures, which is always great to see. We're also seeing even more of a shift towards 3rd party 3D printed and physical minis meaning that the variety of minis on the tables keeps growing.
Do you use any of the Advanced Rulebooks for our games?

While all of our games are available as one page core rules, the Advanced Rulebooks offer loads of options to customize and play our games just how your group enjoys, and half of our audience uses them when they play, and over 86% of you have purchased them either on their own or as part of our Patreon.
Which Advanced Rules do you use in your games?

So which rules are you all choosing to use? The different missions are the most popular option, and probably the quickest way to add a ton of variety to your matches. And the second most popular option are the advanced actions that expand your tactical turn by turn choices. Though it isn't much of a surprise that Phased Battles is the least popular of the Advanced Rules given the popularity of OPR's Alternating Activations.
Have you played a continuing campaign in any of our games?

We've done a lot to support campaign play over the last few years, so its nice to see that while only 22% of you have played in a campaign game, over 705 of you are interested in trying it out! Free campaign rules are available for all of our games, and we've also released several Narrative Campaigns and Mission Packs over the last couple of years to support Campaign play.
If you have played a campaign in any of our games, how many players were involved?

For those of you that do play campaigns, it seems the 2-5 player range is the sweet spot, but it is interesting to see a sizable number of our players taking advantage of our solo play rules! This also lines up with the Narrative Campaigns and Mission Packs we've offered, that support 2 and 4 players, respectively in their default storylines.
Do you make your own campaigns or use a pre-made campaign or mission pack?

But it also seems your creativity streak continues when it comes to what campaigns you play, with custom campaigns beating out pre-made campaign packs by a third. We have many more official campaigns and missions planned for release, but we look forward to seeing the stories and scenarios that our community comes up with as well!
Which of our recent Narrative Campaigns or Mission Packs interest you most?

The newest campaign, The Voidsun Threat, leads the pack when it comes to which campaign our community is interested in, but in general we're seeing the popularity of Grimdark Future campaigns and Age of Fantasy campaigns match the popilarity of the games themselves with a pretty even spready inside the categories.
What is important to you in a Narrative Campaign or Mission Pack?

One thing that the community makes very clear, though, is that when it comes to campaigns, the game play and mission design are a higher priority than the story or characters, though the majority of the communinty says that a strong story is important.
Which Age of Fantasy armies do you play?

For Age of Fantasy's faction popularity, the two most popular factions become even more popular this time with the Saurians and the Vampiric Undead both getting sizable bumps in player numbers. And with the release of the Dwarves Models on Patreon, their popularity also got a sizable bump! We're still seeing a wide spread of interest in the different Age of Fantasy armies, unlike what you'll see when we take a look at Grimdark Future.
Which Age of Fantasy: Quest Classes do you play?

In Age of Fantasy: Quest the popularity of the Fighter has finally evened out compared to the other martial classes, with the Barbarian getting the most significant jump in players with this survey. The Paladin also saw a small dip in players this time, though melee focused characters continue to be the most popular.
Which Grimdark Future armies do you play?

The Human Defense Force continues to be the far and away most popular Grimdark Future army. Robot Legions Battle Brothers and the Alien Hives are the next most popular factions with 32-40% popularity. The Orc Marauders have also seen a nice bump in players with the release of their model line on Patreon.
Which Grimdark Future: Star Quest Classes do you play?

Almost every class in Grimdark Future: Star Quest has seen a bump in player numbers. This is probably because players are exploring all their play options and playing multiple characters instead of sticking with just one, however their relative popularity is unchanged from last survey when the game released.
Which Grimdark Future: Warfleets factions do you play?

Grimdark Future: Warfleets faction popularity seems to follow along with the same changes we see in the other Grimdark Future games. Orc Marauders see their numbers go up, and the Robot Legions have jumped ahead of the popularity of the Saurian Starhost. Otherwise the popularity is pretty stable Though we're seeing an increase in 'other' factions being played.
Thank you, everyone, for answering the community survey, we always look forward to your feedback. It is great to see the responses from so many members of our community!
